Liverpool FC’s last five results compared with Champions League opponents PSG

Share
  • Liverpool face Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals on Wednesday
  • The first leg takes place at the Parc des Princes in France at 8 PM BST
  • Arne Slot’s men lost to the Ligue 1 champions in the Round of 16 stage last term

Liverpool lock horns with Paris Saint Germain in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final tie at the Parc des Princes on Wednesday, 8 April.

The Reds go into the game on the back of a poor run of form, having won just one of their last five matches across all competitions.

In contrast, Luis Enrique’s side have won four of their last five games, and take a four-match winning streak into the Champions League tie.

The two sides met in the Round of 16 stage last season, and although Liverpool won 1-0 in the first leg in Paris, Les Parisiens equalised on the return leg at Anfield and went on to win on penalties.

PSG went on to win the tournament and are hopeful of repeating the trick this time.

Liverpool’s last five results in all competitions

Manchester City 4-0 Liverpool – FA Cup quarter-final

A hat-trick from Erling Haaland and a neat goal from Antoine Semenyo saw Manchester City cruise past the Reds in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday, 4 April. Slot’s side collapsed in the space of 20 minutes, with Haaland’s opener and hat-trick goal coming in the 39th and 57th minutes respectively.

Brighton 2-1 Liverpool – Premier League

The reigning English champions had an abysmal outing in their last league game, as a Danny Welbeck brace saw them walk out of the Amex Stadium empty-handed. Milos Kerkez nullified the former Manchester United man’s early opener 30 minutes into the match, only for the latter to put the Seagulls in front again in the second half.

Liverpool 4-0 Galatasaray – Champions League Round of 16 second leg

In what was one of Liverpool’s most complete performances this season, they earned a thumping 4-0 victory over Galatasaray in the second leg of their Champions League Round of 16 tie at Anfield. Goals from Dominik Szoboszlai, Hugo Ekitike, Ryan Gravenberch, and Mohamed Salah saw the hosts overturn a one-goal deficit from the first leg to progress into the last eight.

Liverpool 1-1 Tottenham – Premier League

The Merseyside-based club have made a habit of starting games strongly before dwindling later on this season, and that was on full display in their home game against Tottenham in the Premier League on 15 March. Szoboszlai gave the hosts the lead as early as the 18th minute, but anyone who watched the game knew it was going to be a nervy finish. That instinct proved right, as Richarlison drew level for Spurs right at the stroke of the 90th minute.

Galatasaray 1-0 Liverpool – Champions League Round of 16 first leg

This game does not matter much, in hindsight, but it is still a part of a worrying pattern for Liverpool. The English giants had no response after Mario Lemina put the hosts in front just seven minutes into the game.

PSG’s last five results in all competitions

PSG 3-1 Toulouse – Ligue 1

PSG are on course to add another Ligue 1 title to their cabinet, as they sit four points clear at the top with a game in hand. They beat Toulouse comfortably in their most recent outing, with a brace from Ousmane Dembele and a late goal from Goncalo Ramos doing the job.

Nice 0-4 PSG – Ligue 1

Nice was on the receiving end of the Parisians’ thrashing before that, with goals from Nuno Mendes, Desire Doue, Pedro Fernandez and Warren Zaire-Emery putting them to the sword.

Chelsea 0-3 PSG – Champions League Round of 16 second leg

PSG faced another Premier League side in their previous Champions League tie in the shape of Chelsea, who stood no chance against them. The Blues were already trailing by three goals after the first leg, and another heavy defeat at Stamford Bridge meant that they lost the tie by six goals. Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Bradley Barcola, who will not feature on Wednesday, and Senny Mayulu were on the scoresheet on that occasion.

PSG 5-2 Chelsea – Champions League Round of 16 first leg

Kvaratskhelia bagged a brace in the first leg at the Parc des Princes, while Barcola was on the scoresheet again. Apart from them, Dembele and Vitinha also found the back of the net against Liam Rosenior’s men.

PSG 1-3 Monaco – Ligue 1

Slot and his team should perhaps focus their analysis on this fixture (6 March), as this was the last time PSG tasted a loss. That was only their first league defeat at home this season. Monaco were already two goals in front, thanks to Maghnes Akliouche and Alexandr Golovin, when Barcola opened the scoring for the hosts. They could not take advantage of that momentum anyway, as Folarin Balogun reinstated the two-goal lead two minutes later.
