- FSG cannot ignore the Arne Slot problem at Liverpool anymore
- Liverpool think tank must bring the axe down on the Dutchman before it is too late
- Michael Edwards and Richard Hughes must stay true to their cut-throat approach
The Fenway Sports Group (FSG) can no longer ignore the fact that Arne Slot is the biggest problem at Liverpool right now.
Slot’s side are on the verge of being knocked out of the UEFA Champions League after losing 2-0 against Paris Saint-Germain in the first leg of their quarter-final tie at the Parc des Princes on Wednesday, 8 April.
While the Reds can turn things around in the second leg at Anfield next Tuesday (14 April), the signs are not promising.
Not even a single player put in a performance they can be proud of in the French capital, with Florian Wirtz and Hugo Ekitike among those who disappointed big time.
a looming presence that FSG seems curiously determined to look past, even as the rest of the footballing world stares directly at it.
While the powers that be in Boston might be preaching patience and pointing toward the long-term project, the mounting evidence on the pitch is becoming impossible to ignore. At Liverpool, the silence from the boardroom on the matter is starting to speak volumes.
Slot exposed by PSG, Liverpool nerds cannot ignore it
Anyone who has watched the Merseyside-based club regularly this season would know that they look nothing like the mentality monsters Jurgen Klopp forged them to be.
Their tactics are as thin as paper, and their mentality, as frail as eggshells.
However, neither the results nor the fans’ opinion has been able to change FSG’s mind, with the owners continuing to back the Dutchman.
John W. Henry and Co. take immense pride in the value they place on data and statistics, and one can only hope that they will start paying attention to the numbers now because those are abysmal, too.
Not only was Wednesday’s defeat against PSG Liverpool’s third consecutive defeat in all competitions, but also their fourth consecutive away defeat.
This is the first time since April 2012 that the six-time European champions have lost four away games in a row across all competitions. Kenny Dalglish was in charge at that time.
Slot is also on course to become the Liverpool manager with the most defeats in a single season, having already lost 17 matches this term. Only Rafael Benitez and Brendan Rodgers have lost more.
| Manager | Defeats | Season |
| Benitez | 19 | 2004-05 |
| Benitez | 19 | 2009-10 |
| Rodgers | 18 | 2014-15 |
| Slot | 17* | 2025-26 |
If anyone wants to dismiss those numbers as an anomaly, in-game statistics are hard to look at as well.
For example, the entire set of Liverpool’s outfield players managed to complete only 161 passes, while Vitinha alone did 132 for PSG.
It is also worth noting that they failed to register a single shot on target on Wednesday.
Their measly xG of 0.17 is nothing but embarrassing. It is the worst figure they have notched since Slot arrived in 2024.
Over to you, Michael Edwards and Richard Hughes
Michael Edwards has a reputation for his shrewd decision-making, while the same is expected of Richard Hughes.
However, that has not been the case when it comes to Liverpool’s stance on Slot’s future.
The Reds hierarchy continue to back the former Feyenoord boss despite his tactics and man-management leaving much to be desired.
The fact that this comes after spending £446million on new signings last summer makes it even more worrying.
Therefore, FSG must pull the plug on Slot right now.
