- Liverpool face Everton on Sunday
- Merseyside derby could be in UCL race
- Scholes and Neville make similar predictions
Gary Neville, Paul Scholes, and Roy Keane deliver a unanimous Merseyside Derby verdict that Liverpool fans will hate. As the Reds face an injury crisis for the historic Hill Dickinson debut.
Liverpool are set to play at the Hill Dickinson Stadium for the first time as they face Everton in the Premier League on Sunday, April 19.
The two sides meet for the 248th time in history, and it will be at a new venue this weekend. The tightly contested derby in recent years has seen the Blues slowly try to catch up to the Reds’ level.
With history in the making this Sunday, the Toffees will be desperate to start to win the first-ever Merseyside derby at their new stadium. David Moyes’s side come into the game having lost just once in their last five Premier League matches, while Arne Slot’s side have just two wins in their last five league games.
Paul Scholes and Gary Neville make Merseyside derby prediction
Paul Scholes and Gary Neville were on The Overlap’s Stick to Football podcast this week, when they made their predictions for the derby. Both Manchester United legends believe that the two sides will not be able to walk away with the three points, and the game will end 1-1.
Ian Wright was also on the podcast and backed a draw as the result in the Merseyside derby. He has gone with a 2-2 draw at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, while Roy Keane has also matched the prediction.
Liverpool will not be happy settling for a draw as they need the three points to put more daylight between themselves and Chelsea. Brentford and Bournemouth are also on 48 points right now, which sees them sitting just four points adrift of the Reds, like the FIFA Club World Cup champions.
Everton vs Liverpool team news
Everton host Liverpool on Sunday and will have just one player on the sidelines. Jack Grealish has been ruled out for the season with a foot injury, while Charly Alcaraz is expected to make a return this weekend after missing the recent games.
Meanwhile, Liverpool have as many as seven players out for the derby. Hugo Ekitike is the latest to join the ever-growing list after he suffered an Achilles injury in the 2-0 loss to Paris Saint-Germain.
Stefan Bajcetic, Alisson, Conor Bradley, Jayden Danns, Wataru Endo, and Giovanni Leoni are also out due to injuries. Alexander Isak returned during the week and played the first 45 minutes in the UEFA Champions League quarterfinals, and is expected to play similar minutes this weekend.
