- Liverpool playing at Hill Dickinson for the first time
- 62nd Premier League stadium for the Reds
- Have not won at just two stadiums
Arne Slot’s Liverpool head to the Hill Dickinson Stadium this Sunday, April 19, aiming to secure more than just local bragging rights. A victory in this historic first-ever Merseyside Derby at Everton’s new home would see the Reds etch their name into the record books by setting a new Premier League milestone.
Arne Slot’s side travel across Merseyside to face the Toffees in the Premier League this weekend and they could be creating history with a win.
The 248th meeting between the two sides will be one for the history books, as it will be at the Blues’ new stadium, but the Reds have the chance to create some history of their own.
The Anfield side have played at 61 stadiums in the Premier League so far, winning at 59 of them. Blackpool’s Bloomfield Road and Luton Town’s Kenilworth Road remain the only stadiums where the Reds have not won a league match.
Should Liverpool beat Everton at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, they will become the first Premier League side to win at 60 different stadiums.
Slot on ‘special’ derby at Hill Dickinson Stadium
Arne Slot spoke to the media ahead of the visit to the new stadium, admitting that it was going to be a special game regardless of the number of games they have played at a particular venue. He added that a derby would be a big boost for his side and said:
“It is always a very special game, doesn’t matter if it is the 60th being played in the stadium, but if it is the last one being played in a stadium or a first one makes it even more special, if that’s even possible. Of course, they are in a very good place at the moment.
“It is always special, but maybe you can add one or two percent to it because it’s the first season. It will always be a very special game for them, but also for us.”
Liverpool can move to fourth in the Premier League table with a win over Everton. However, a loss would see them remain fifth, with the Toffees just two points behind in sixth.
David Moyes explains why Liverpool have the edge in derby
David Moyes heaped praise on Arne Slot ahead of the Merseyside Derby, hailing the Liverpool manager for his work with the Anfield club. He also took a cheeky dig at the Dutchman, saying he should look at the Reds’ historical advantage in decisions. He said in his presser:
“Absolutely. He has done a brilliant job. And I have got to say he is a really good coach – that is from a neutral point of view. But I’m not sure I’m having him saying they are getting bad decisions at Anfield because if you ask any Premier League manager over football history, they will tell you that if there is one club that gets all the decisions, it is Liverpool Football Club.”
Liverpool defeated Everton 2-1 earlier this season at Anfield, with Hugo Ekitike and Ryan Gravenberch scoring the goals for Slot’s side.
