Liverpool make surprise decision in Morgan Rogers chase as Chelsea and Manchester United push

Share
  • Liverpool not active in Rogers chase
  • Yan Diomande remains the main focus
  • Mo Salah replacement remains undecided

Morgan Rogers is open to leaving Aston Villa this summer, but Liverpool have cooled their interest in the 23-year-old.

Liverpool have been keeping tabs on the Englishman, but are currently not pushing to sign him this summer. Premier League rivals Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal, and Ligue 1 side Paris Saint-Germain who are currently leading the race versatile midfielder.

He can also play as left-sided forward which as a matter of fact was a key target for the Anfield side this summer, but this summer the focus has shifted to the right after Mohamed Salah announced his decision to leave. Yan Diomande remains the key target in the area, and the RB Leipzig star is bound to cost more than the £80 million Aston Villa reportedly want for their star man.

Rogers has a contract at Villa Park until 2031, but is open to leaving amid mounting interest. The Reds were expected to be in the mix, but talkSPORT report that they are not as active in the chase as the other sides.

Former Liverpool striker advised Morgan Rogers

Emile Heskey spoke about Mogan Rogers, urging the Aston Villa star to remain at the club. The former Liverpool striker told OLBG that the Englishman should think about his status with the national team and be at a club where he can play regularly.

“He needs to really think about his own progression as well and not take that jump too quickly. I think Morgan Rogers is brilliant. For me, personally, I think he’s ahead of a lot of the number 10s that are in the England national team. He sits above them because of what he’s done this season and he’s done it consistently this season. I think he’s been fantastic. But he needs to really think about his next move very carefully.”

“Do you stay at Villa, who are actually on the ascendancy and doing really well with a manager who’s fantastic? As long as they can stay in and around that Champions League, they’ve got a massive chance of keeping players like that. But having that attention from others, sometimes that can weigh down on you as well.”

Rogers has scored nine goals and assisted five times in his 33 Premier League matches this season. He has another two goals and three assists in 12 UEFA Europa League matches.

Liverpool need a left-winger signed this summer, as Cody Gakpo has not hit the heights needed at Anfield, and Rio Ngumoha needs more time to reach the level required. The Reds ideally need a player who has Premier League experience, but Rogers might not be the answer.

That said, a winger has become a need of the hour as Slot cannot rely on Federico Chiesa and Florian Wirtz to operate in that role next season. Putting all eggs in that basket is also questionable, but they would need to spend big on a winger, and if he can operate on both flanks, the better it is for the club’s future.
