Sam Allardyce hasn’t held back with his thoughts on Mohamed Salah, after the Liverpool icon went public with his frustrations on Arne Slot, as the legendary winger now prepares to line up for the Reds one last time against Brentford.
Mohamed Salah will be expecting to start on the final day of the Premier League season against Keith Andrews’ Brentford side as his unbelievable Reds journey comes to a close against the visitors from West London.
Ripping up his contract to start anew elsewhere, during the twilight years of his career, Salah will walk away from Merseyside with two Premier League titles and one Champions League honour under his belt, alongside amassing a stunning 257 goals and 122 assists across 441 appearances.
He will be remembered as a modern great at Anfield for some time to come, but he has arguably soured his ties to the club in recent times with some very outspoken comments about Arne Slot, with whom he had a well-documented spat earlier in the season, after the Dutchman had dropped him for several matches.
Stating that Liverpool must go back to the ‘heavy metal football’ that Jurgen Klopp’s celebrated reign was renowned for, the statement read as one last jab at a manager he clearly doesn’t see eye to eye with.
The statement has sent the media world into a frenzy, with the likes of Michael Owen criticising his conduct, while Wayne Rooney has declared that Slot should axe Salah for the final game of the season, to really send out a message.
Former West Ham United manager Sam Allardyce has weighed in with his own uncensored comments on Salah’s bombshell statement, when speaking on the “No Tippy Tappy Football Podcast”, with the outspoken 71-year-old bringing into disrepute the 33-year-old’s professionalism.
Allardyce’s thoughts on Salah’s statement
Allardyce has never been one to mince his words, even when he was still a widely recognised Premier League manager.
Since giving up management, he has maintained this outspoken persona, with the one-time England manager – earlier in the season – stating that Salah was a “big baby” after the Egyptian showed his visible distaste at being substituted off late into Liverpool’s match with Nottingham Forest in February.
Salah is back in the firing line when it comes to Allardyce’s frank opinions, with the 71-year-old laying into the number 11 for his unprofessional remarks.
He said: “If I were the owners, I would ban him. If you’re the owner, you go – “Who do you think you are?”
“You’re not bigger than this football club!” You know, I mean, he’s actually brought him back from a spat he had before. And to be fair, he’s been crap, hasn’t he?
“You know, for what he was and what he used to do, and what he did to win the league, he just hasn’t done it.
So, look at yourself. Look at how bad you’ve been.”
Mohamed Salah: 24/25 vs 25/26 Stats:
| Competition | 24/25 | 25/26 |
| Premier League | 29 goals / 18 assists | 7 goals / 6 assists |
| All competitions | 34 goals / 23 assists | 12 goals / 9 assists |
While Salah’s levels have notably dipped this season, compared to last, Liverpool fans would be incensed if they didn’t get to see their magical star one last time at Anfield.
For just one game, Slot and Salah will have to push their differences to one side, with the 33-year-old deserving of an exceptional farewell that isn’t dampened by his comments, for all the great times he has given the adoring Anfield masses over the years.
