Liverpool fans have made their opinions clear after a Monday Night Football showed 94% support for Salah after his public statement, which gave a blow for Arne Slot’s Liverpool squad as he leaves this summer.
The Monday Night Football panel of Jamie Carragher and Patrick Viera discussed his statement on social media following Liverpool’s defeat to Aston Villa on Friday night.
In Salah’s post on X, he claimed: “I want to see Liverpool go back to being the heavy-metal attacking team that opponents fear and back to being a team that wins trophies.” This appeared to be a direct call on the manager, with Jurgen Klopp previously known for the heavy metal football that made Liverpool’s style so clear.
Was Salah right to post his thoughts?
Liverpool fans will be the first to recognise that the performances of this season have not been up to the standard that the club expects. Jamie Carragher looked to the examples of Liverpool legends Steven Gerrard and Kenny Dalglish, who both left the club in the midst of disagreements and benchings from their respective managers. He noted how they didn’t use this as a reason to bash the manager in the media.
He went on to comment, “I wasn’t surprised. I told everybody at Sky behind the scenes, my friends who were Liverpool fans, I said Salah, something else will come before the end of the season. He will drop another bomb. A little bit like what Ronaldo did on the way out of Manchester United. I thought it might come after the end of the season when he sort of moved on, but no.”
Salah has typically been quiet in the media and on social media. The only times that he has opted to use his platform to share negativity around personal feelings towards those involved in the club.
“On this show, less than two years ago, I called him selfish for doing an interview and that rings true again. Liverpool have a really important week this week, still not qualified for the Champions League, and it should be about Liverpool FC, not Salah FC, but unfortunately it’s going to be about Mohamed Salah…”
Patrick Viera also shared his thoughts, calling it a “low blow” to his club and manager on his way out the door
Fans share their support for Salah
In a FanAlysis poll carried out during the show, Liverpool fans voted in their masses to show support for Salah over the current manager.
94% back the ‘Egyptian King’, while only six per cent gave their support for the manager who appears as though he will be backed by the club heading into next season.
This may be a longevity factor as Salah’s nine seasons and continued commitment to the club are backed by its supporters.
Carragher seemed in pure disbelief as the statistic was revealed to be so heavily in Salah’s favour.
