Jeremy Jacquet is now officially a Liverpool player after his unveiling yesterday.
The French defender agreed a deal to join the Reds in the January transfer window and has finally made the switch, in what is an exciting move for all parties involved.
After losing Ibrahima Konate, Jacquet is expected to partner Virgil van Dijk at the back for Liverpool, with the likes of Joe Gomez and Giovani Leoni set to deputise for the pair.
And now, the young defender has lavished praise on Van Dijk as he prepares to kickstart his Anfield career in pre-season.
Jacquet wowed by Van Dijk
Jacquet was wanted by some of the biggest clubs in world football and was close to agreeing a deal to join Chelsea in January.
However, after the Reds declared their interest, it quickly became clear that he preferred a move to Anfield as a £60m agreement was thrashed out with Rennes.
He suffered a minor setback after his dream move, though, as a shoulder injury kept him out of the remainder of the 2025-26 campaign.
And after his official unveiling, Jacquet affirmed that he is really excited to play alongside Van Dijk, describing the Liverpool captain as a player he admires.
“Of course, I’m really excited to line up alongside a great player like him. I think he’s up there with the best centre-backs in the world currently, so I can only learn from him.
“I don’t like using the word ‘idol’, not even for the best players I admire. But naturally, he’s a player I look up to. As far as I’m concerned, he’s one of the best centre-backs and if I want to reach the very top I’ve got to absorb as much as I can from him, obviously.”
Jacquet fit for Liverpool pre-season
As we stated earlier, Jacquet missed a large part of last season with a shoulder injury he sustained at Rennes.
However, during his unveiling, the Frenchman confirmed that he is ready to go duirng pre-season after receiving the al clear from his surgeon.
“My shoulder is much better now, and as part of my rehab, I’m now back on the grass on my own.
“The surgeon has given me the go-ahead to start training with the group again, but unfortunately, it was preferred to just hold off on that.
“And so now, this summer, I’m going to do everything I can to come back here 100% fit.”
