Aldridge says Salah and Mane have a healthy rivalry – a mountain out of a molehill

Liverpool legend John Aldridge feels that the rivalry between Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane is a healthy one.

During the match against Burnley last weekend, Mane was furious with Salah after being substituted.

The Senegalese winger was unhappy with his teammate’s decision to shoot when he was in a good position to score, showing his fury as he left the pitch.

There wasn’t much of a scene between the two players, though, and talks of a rift was swiftly dismissed by Jurgen Klopp and Jordan Henderson after the match.

Aldridge, who was a prolific striker during his time at Anfield, feels that there is a healthy competitive rivalry between Liverpool’s brilliant African duo.

Writing in his column for the Liverpool Echo, the former Republic of Ireland international wrote:

Mohamed Salah’s had the Golden Boot for the last two years. He knows what a privilege that is. I was lucky to do it with Liverpool and it gives you the desire to do it year in, year out.

Sadio Mane got it last year when they shared it. He knows how prestigious it is too. It’s healthy rivalry between them.

Both Salah and Mane are two of the finest forwards in the world at the moment and are integral to Liverpool’s success, scoring a total of 137 goals between them for the Reds.

Last season, both players shared the Premier League Golden Boot along with Arsenal’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

This kind of ambition is always helpful to Liverpool – nevertheless, both players should always prioritise the team ahead of anything else.
