Liverpool are set to be dealt a blow in their pursuit of Napoli midfielder Piotr Zielinski ahead of the January transfer window.
According to Calcio Mercato, via TbrFootball, Zielinski is poised to put pen to paper on a new long-term contract with the Italian giants to commit his future to the club.
The report claims that both Everton and Liverpool were showing interest in the Polish international ahead of January, but he now appears set to stay in the Serie A.

Liverpool have plenty of options in midfield at present and recently announced the signing of Takumi Minamino from Salzburg – adding another player for Jurgen Klopp to rotate in his middle three. With Jordan Henderson, Naby Keita, James Milner, Gini Wijnaldum and Fabinho already at the club, with Minamino joining in January, there will be little need for Zielinski at Anfield.
Zielinski has scored 21 goals in 162 appearances for Napoli since joining the club in 2016 from Empoli, which shows how consistent he has been for the club. He has only missed six league matches for Napoli in his career so far, playing 36 out of 38 games in each of the last three seasons. Despite his impressive record and talent, Liverpool have more than enough at the club at the moment for this not to be a massive blow to their squad.
