Bournemouth lead race for Clyne

Bournemouth have stepped up their pursuit of a loan move for Liverpool defender Nathaniel Clyne, according to the Daily Mail.

Clyne, who is also subject to interest from Cardiff, is said to be Eddie Howe’s number one target following the long term injuries to Adam Smith and Simon Francis.

The full-back has fallen down the pecking order at Liverpool since his injury last season, with the likes of Trent Alexander-Arnold and Joe Gomez both able to play on the right side of defence, and Jurgen Klopp is willing to let Clyne move on in January.

Neil Warnock, who gave the defender his professional debut at Crystal Palace in 2008, is also keen on a move for the England international, but faces a battle with the Cherries for his signature.

Clyne moved on from Palace in 2012 to join Southampton, where his impressive performances earned him a move to Anfield three years later and a place in the England squad.

The 27-year-old has since made 14 appearances for his country and he will be hoping to push for a return to the international set-up with a run of regular first-team football.

Clyne made 70 Premier League appearances for Liverpool during his first two seasons with the club, but has made just seven in the previous two.
