Brendan on Sturridge and Henderson

Brendan on Sturridge and Henderson

Liverpool face Norwich City on Sunday and Brendan Rodgers has spoken about the fitness of English pair Daniel Sturridge and Jordan Henderson in the build up to the game from his press conference.

Rodgers confirmed in his news conference that Sturridge and Henderson would be looked at coming into the match and could be involved in the squad to face the newly-promoted side.

Sturridge has been a long-term absentee for Liverpool with a hip injury and Henderson has been in the States in recent weeks to deal with a heel injury.

He said this about the duo, as quoted in the Liverpool Echo: “Jordan will train today, so we’ll see how he comes through that.

“He’s obviously been away and had some work done on his foot, so hopefully all will be well with that. We will assess him over the next 48 hours.

Daniel has been training with the team for a week or so, so again we will assess him to see where he’s at in relation to the game.

“They’re both very important players. Daniel has been out a very long time, and a player that can get you 25-plus goals in a season is someone who is going to be missed.

“Jordan’s status in the team has grown in my time here, so when you don’t have players of that calibre available, then of course it’s going to have an impact.”

The Ulsterman then went on to talk about what a boost Sturridge would be to the Liverpool side, who are struggling on the goal front:

On his game he’s one of the best there is. He can stretch teams, and has wonderful variety in his finishing.

Liverpool will hope to have both back in the squad for the visit of Norwich, who won 3-1 against Bournemouth in their last match, as opposed to Liverpool’s 3-1 defeat to Manchester United.

Anything other than a win for Liverpool on Sunday would be seen as a disappointment for Brendan Rodgers and his men.
