Liverpool skipper Jordan Henderson may not be risked on Monday night, where the Reds take on Arsenal at the Emirates.
The Liverpool Echo have reported that Henderson could well be left out for precautionary reasons, as the 25-year-old is currently struggling with a foot injury.
He was forced off five minutes into the second half in the 1-0 home win over Bournemouth earlier this week.
The England international has been taking painkillers and receiving treatment for the problem, which is ongoing, but there is no broken bone.
The club’s medical staff still feel there is a chance he could recover well after further treatment in the coming days, but without significant improvement, he will simply not play any part in the game.
There are fears that aggravating the injury could put him out of action for longer.
Should Henderson be left out, the Echo claim that Emre Can is likely to replace the captain in north London, just as he did at Anfield on Monday night.
Furthermore, vice-captain James Milner would lead Liverpool out for the first time in his career.
