Carra: It has to be Klopp

Jamie Carragher has spoken about the vacancy that opened up yesterday at Anfield, and he’s convinced he knows who is the right man for the job.

“It has to be Jurgen Klopp,” Carra said, in his column for the Daily Mail this morning.

The 48-year old German is heavily linked with the Liverpool management job following the sacking of Brendan Rodgers and he’s currently the odds-on favourite with the vast majority of UK bookmakers, with many suspending betting entirely on the former Borussia Dortmund boss.

Sky Sports pundit Carragher is keen for FSG to back Klopp, stating that the job needs to be given to someone “with huge drive to prove themselves”, rather than an established manager who has already reached the summit of European football. Someone like Carlo Ancelotti, for example.

“Liverpool aren’t a giant at the moment but they have the aspiration to get back there. Klopp has the energy and desire to take on that challenge.”

The former Liverpool centre-back has been outspoken of late, likening the Reds to Tottenham on Sky’s ‘Super Sunday’ broadcast yesterday. However, his latest views on the Merseysiders appear justified, following a string of poor results that ultimately sealed the fate of Rodgers.

He feels that the correct move has to be made at the top level, in order for the club to move forward on the field, and it has to be made now.

“I wonder at the back of the owners’ minds whether they moved now in case the Chelsea job became available. They wouldn’t want to fight the champions for whoever is their chosen man.”

“We’ve seen them appoint Damien Comolli, Dalglish, create a transfer committee and hire Rodgers. None have been a true success. This next move needs to be.”

If reports are to be believed, Liverpool HAVE made an approach for Klopp in the hours commencing Rodgers’ departure, and the signs are that he is interested in a move to Anfield.

But for now, it’s a waiting game.
