Darren Bent tips Clyne to join West Ham

Former England international Darren Bent believes Nathaniel Clyne will end up joining West Ham on loan in the January transfer window.

The 28-year-old “could” be fit enough to complete a move away from Liverpool this month, the Daily Mail claim, as he continues his recover from a cruciate knee ligament injury he suffered last summer.

And speaking to Football Insider, Bent believes Clyne will join West Ham on loan as he is a better all round option than the Hammers’ current defensive options.

I think Nathaniel Clyne needs to go somewhere and start playing week in week out. I think that could be West Ham, [Pablo] Zabaleta…his legs are going a little bit and [Ryan] Fredericks is quick but defensively he is not there.

But Clyne is both, he’s quick, powerful and can defend. I think he might end up going to West Ham on loan, playing all the time and them not signing him anyway.

READ LIVERPOOL VERDICT

A loan move for Clyne would be an excellent piece of business for both Liverpool and West Ham in my opinion.

The right-back is highly unlikely to force his way back into the side given how Trent Alexander-Arnold is clearly Jurgen Klopp’s first choice, while Joe Gomez offers strong cover.

Neco Williams impressed in the win over Everton in the FA Cup earlier this month, and I think Klopp is likely to give him more of a chance in the side than Clyne.

Therefore the 28-year-old needs a move away in my opinion, as it would allow him to build his match fitness and his confidence, and also put himself in the shop window in order to pursue a permanent move in the summer.
