Liverpool have secured a pre-contract agreement with Schalke 04 defender Joel Matip, as reported by Paul Joyce of The Express.
Matip’s contract with the German side expires in the summer and he will then make the switch to Merseyside.
Matip predominantly plays at centre-back, however, he is able to play as a defensive midfielder and has done so in 50 games for Schalke.

Liverpool have been linked with Matip for a while and it now appears that the Cameroonian international will soon be moving to Anfield.
Matip has played every minute of Schalke’s Bundesliga campaign this season and the German side offered him a new contract as they wanted him to stay, but he has decided to jump ship to the Premier League.
As reported by Joyce, the decision to bring in Matip means that Kolo Toure is almost certain to leave the club in the summer when his current contract expires.
