Divock Origi exits West Ham game with potential hamstring injury

Liverpool have a potential injury worry over Divock Origi after he exited the Reds’ 2-0 win over West Ham United.

The forward played for 70 minutes before being forced off and he was spotted moments later with ice strapped to his left hamstring whilst sitting in the dugout.

The Belgian has netted five times for the Reds so far this season, including three times in the Premier League, and he was starting against the Hammers in place of Sadio Mane, who was ruled out of the game at the London Stadium with a hamstring injury of his own.

With Mane also a doubt for the visit of Southampton on Saturday afternoon, Liverpool will be hoping that Origi’s issue isn’t serious as he would be one of Jurgen Klopp’s potential starting options for the game at Anfield.

If the Belgian’s hamstring is indeed injured, then the Reds will be forced to make another change to their attack.

The postitive news for Klopp is that he does have a number of different options available to him if Origi is ruled out.

He could simply replace the Belgian and deploy another player on the left of a front three, in which case Naby Keita, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Takumi Minamino could be possible options alongside Roberto Firmino and Salah.

Another option for Klopp could be a change of formation away from a 4-3-3 to a 4-2-3-1.

The Reds played that formation a few times in December, against Everton, Bournemouth, Watford and Wolves respectively, with the Reds winning on all four occasions.

Liverpool actually used a similar formation when Southampton last visted Anfield in September 2018 and it proved to be a wise tactical move by Klopp as the Reds ran out 3-0 winners.

In other Liverpool related news, these fans have reacted to the reports linking the Reds with a club-record move for a Bundesliga star.
