Diouf accuses Gerrard of not liking black people

El Hadji Diouf has responded to criticism from Steven Gerrard in the ex-Reds captain’s autobiography by insinuating that he is a racist.

In an interview with Senegalese radio station Radio Future Media, the former Liverpool winger said:

Gerrard has never liked black people.

I showed Gerrard I was black, that I wasn’t English, I’m no pushover. He never dared looked me in the eye.

We all saw how he made life difficult for Balotelli at Liverpool.

This glaring attack comes just days after Gerrard revealed the players he liked the least in his 17-year career at Anfield. Gerrard said in his autobiography, serialised in the Daily Mail:

I don’t really want to waste time thinking about El Hadji Diouf but it’s worth highlighting his wasted seasons at Liverpool as an example of how it can all go wrong.

A few people have since asked me if I saw any comparison between Diouf and Mario Balotelli and I’ve always said no. I’ve got respect for Balotelli; I’ve got none for Diouf.

Diouf joined Liverpool in 2002 from RC Lens for £10m and was a player that came highly recommend to Reds boss Gerard Houllier.

In his three-year spell at the club, Diouf scored six times in 55 appearances, but his time at Anfield is remembered most for a spitting incident involving a Celtic fan in a UEFA cup tie, which saw the player banned for two matches.

Thirty-four-year-old Diouf is now playing for Sabah in the Malaysian Premier League after spells at Rangers, Doncaster Rovers and Leeds United, among others.
