………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….

This week we jump across the pond to Canada and interview a life-long Liverpool supporter who gives us an in depth analysis of his current views on the past, the current and the future on his boyhood team.

Name: Scott Terrio

Location: Toronto, Canada

Age: 42

Twitter handle: garymac21

PAST:

First Liverpool game attended? LFC-ManU Nov. 2003, Anfield (2-1 loss)

What do you remember form this game? I actually witnessed Harry Kewell score a goal. A fella outside Anfield was selling “I saw Kewell score” t-shirts and I still kick myself for not buying one.

Fondest moment as an LFC supporter? Can there be any other answer than Istanbul?

Worst moment as a supporter? Riise’s own goal at Anfield v. Chelsea, 2008 Ch. Lg. semi first leg. 95th minute, FFS. We never should have gone out to them, and we would have beat the Scum in the final in Moscow. Wrong on so many levels, that.

Best LFC game you’ve seen? We never played better than that week against Madrid (4-0) and the Scum 4-1 at Old Trafford. Has to be those two matches in tandem.

Shankly or Paisley? Paisley. So many trophies in a 9-year span. Incredible. Best of all time, easy.

Conversation with any LFC player, past or present? Has to be Barnes. A true great, and a brain in his head, too. I would ask him how he handled the blatant racism he endured in the late 80s/early 90s.

Best player and why? Graeme Souness. Exactly the kind of player I admire – skill, aggression, smart, lethal shot, range of passing, managed matches etc. The complete player. If you had 11 like him you’d never lose.

What opposition player would you have seen wear an LFC jersey? Hate to say it, but Roy Keane (and apparently he almost did). The kind of player you hate when he’s an opponent, but he would drive your team.

Ultimate team of the past? Clemence Jones Hansen Hughes A. Kennedy Souness Whelan Barnes Dalglish Rush Keegan

CURRENT:

Favourite current player and why: KOLO. Beast of a player, leader, reads the play well, plays with a smile on his face.

Redevelopment of Anfield or new ground: Redevelopment of Anfield. A new stadium would kill off any remaining atmosphere there is left now. Anfield must always be Anfield.

If you could take any current footballer on a “bro” date? Xabi Alonso. Would either take him to La Perejila (tapas joint in Madrid) or to Scallywag’s here in Toronto (bar that is the base of the Toronto Liverpool Supporters’ Club) – he’d be a huge hit there. We’ve had several legends over to Scallywag’s before, including Grobelaar.

Brendan’s dream 11 (current world players): Neuer Lahm KOLO Varane Schmelzer Gundogan Gerrard Iniesta Reus Messi Falcao. Beat that.

Opposition player I would most like to sign for the club:

realistic (sort of): Gundogan

unrealistic: Iniesta

What area of the squad needs improving: defensive/holding midfield, striker

If you war the mgr and given 50M to spend, who would you buy? Strootman & Mandzukic to address the weak areas of the squad. And that would pretty much do it.

Best purchase of the summer transfer window: Sakho: future French national captain, young, aggressive, learned under Laurent Blanc and Didier Deschamps…

Who will be our “little gem” of the season and why? Luis Alberto. I can see him being used to come onto games we are winning by a slim margin late to retain possession. Looks very comfortable on the ball, head always up.

Realistic aim for 2013/2014 season (League finish, cup runs etc.)? 4th place, deep run in FA Cup, semis in Lg Cup

GENERAL:

Your all-time LFC idol? John Barnes

Your all-time favourite LFC manager? Paisley

Any pre-match rituals? listen to “Fearless” by Pink Floyd (it worked for Istanbul), and/or She Bangs the Drums by The Stone Roses

The first person you text after an LFC game? my wife

Merseyside Derby or LFC-ManU? ManU. The Bitters is still a big game, but they really don’t matter, now do they? #ArentThey

Your last LFC shirt you bought? last year’s home red – a modern classic

Do you have any numbers or names on the back of your shirts? If so, why? Carragher (c. 2002), Gerrard (c. 2001), Owen (c. 1999 – now burned), Torres 2008 (also burned), McAllister 2001, the inevitable Fowler 1998 (?)

Your all-time favourite LFC shirt? 1984 red (Rome), hands-down. Elegant, simple, classic.

All-time worst LFC shirt? Spoiled for choice here! Current 3rd jersey monstrosity, anything form the mid-90s, THAT green mess c. 199(3?). Really, green?

Best grounds you’ve been to apart from Anfield? Nou Camp. Simply awesome. Saw a Champions League match there Oct. 2009 Barca v. Rubin Kazan. Kazan actually scored 90 seconds in on a thunder bastard strike from 35 yards and an audience of almost 100,000 went silent except for about 50 drunken Khazaks down in the away end. Kazan went on to win 2-1. One of the only times that Dream Team lost in about 3 years and I was there. It was actually our honeymoon! (I have a VERY understanding wife…)

What’s the furthest you’ve travelled to see LFC play? Across the Atlantic. Going again this November.

Your all-time favourite LFC chant/song? (away at Goodison giving them a hiding despite being down to ten): “Ten men! We’ve only got ten men! We’ve only got ten men!”

If you could make up c chant for a player, who would it be for and what would the chant be? I can’t claim this as my own, but I’ve heard “I just came to see Glen Johnson” to the tune of “I just called to say I love you”. Brilliant, that.

Millions pounds or score the winner for LFC at Anfield? The goal, for sure, because that would certainly mean I was on a hundred thousand a week wages, anyway.

European Cup or Premier League title? Tough call. Premier League by a hair. Gerrard deserves one.

ULTIMATE TEAM OF MY LIFETIME:

Clemence, Jones, Hansen, Hyypia, A. Kennedy, Gerrard, Souness, Barnes, Dalglish, Rush, Fowler.
