Five top Firmino goals

Liverpool have completed the signing of Brazilian international Roberto Firmino from Hoffenheim on a long-term deal. The medical will take place after the Brazilian’s involvement in the Copa America concludes.

It’s been a whirlwind 36 hours for Liverpool fans. Brazilian reports initially broke the news that 23-year-old is on the verge of a move to Liverpool and The Reds, albeit very surprisingly, completed the transfer swiftly and announced it this morning. As the dust begins to settle, we decided to give the fans a glimpse of what the Brazilian is capable of.

Here are five very good Firmino goals to whet the appetite…

This was Firmino’s second appearance for his national team and it was an away friendly against Austria. The scores were level and the match was nearing the end before Firmino struck. Chelsea player Filipe Luis laid it off to him approximately 25 yards from goal, Firmino took a touch towards goal and then unleashed a screamer into top corner. It was a goal Philippe Coutinho would have been proud of.

Many are aware of the ‘no-look pass’ that shot to fame through Brazilian legend Ronaldinho but a ‘no-look goal’? Well, Firmino executed it against Bremen. A long ball over the top saw the Bremen ‘keeper and Firmino converging in the box, Firmino won the race and his first touch took him past the ‘keeper before audaciously tapping into an empty net while looking away from the goal.

This was in a match against Borussia Dortmund. Neven Subotic received the ball as last man but just as he was controlling the ball, the pacy forward pounced and dashed through on goal before nonchalantly chipping the ball over Mitchell Langerak.

The fullback played a through ball into Firmino which bounced off the turf as it reached him, Firmino expertly controlled the ball and volleyed into the goal all in one movement. His vision should also be credited here as he saw the ‘keeper taking tentative steps off his line and therefore surprised him with the early effort.

Another goal for Brazil and this one against fellow south American team Chile. A superb through ball from defence saw Firmino race through on goal, he rounded the ‘keeper with his first touch and slotted in.

matchday.
