Gerrard has held ‘informal talks’ about replacing Klopp

Steven Gerrard has reportedly held ‘informal talks’ about the prospect of replacing Jurgen Klopp at Anfield.

According to David Ornstein of The Athletic, as cited on the Scotsman, talks have already taken place regarding Klopp’s successor.

He wrote:

It is no secret that Gerrard and many at the club would like him to manage Liverpool one day and, while it may never happen, the subject is understood to have been discussed informally by all parties. Gerrard is thought to be in regular contact with Klopp and Liverpool’s leadership.

Both Klopp and Gerrard recently put pen to paper on new deals at Liverpool and Rangers respectively.

Eagled-eyed supporters noticed that both deals ran out in 2024, with many convinced this wasn’t merely a coincidence.

There’s nothing to suggest that either Gerrard or Klopp will be leaving their respective posts anytime soon, but it appears to be a match made in heaven that is simply waiting to happen.

Gerrard has been a huge hit with Rangers since arriving in Scotland and his side are battling Celtic for the title this season.

Given the huge transformation job that Klopp has done at Liverpool, the club will need a safe pair of hands for when the time does eventually come for him to move on, be that in 2024 or earlier. Gerrard’s legendary status might just soften the blow of losing a manager like Klopp.
