Darren Bent has called for Gareth Southgate to start Joe Gomez against Kosovo on Tuesday, but that appears unlikely to happen.
According to HITC, Bent told talkSPORT of his admiration for Gomez and believes Southgate should start him in England’s Euro 2020 qualifier on Tuesday.
It depends what shape he [Southgate] goes with. For me, if you look at the defenders, you’d probably have Maguire and Gomez [for Kosovo] because I really like Gomez, he’s a real top-quality defender. Before he had that injury he was a big powerhouse and a big powerful presence.

It doesn’t surprise me that eventually, it’ll be him and Van Dijk, week in and week out at Liverpool. He’s that good.
But why is it unlikely that he will start on Tuesday?

While England should have more than enough quality to beat Kosovo, they are currently sitting second in the group having won two and drawn two of their first four games in the group.
Therefore Southgate is likely to take them very seriously, and rightly so, given how they are unbeaten in their last 14 games.
Furthermore, Gomez has not been starting consistently for Liverpool this season while the likes of Harry Maguire, Michael Keane and Tyrone Mings all have been.
