Liverpool defender Joe Gomez has suffered a knee injury whilst on international duty with England this week.
Gomez, who has been embroiled in controversy after an incident with Raheem Sterling in training, has picked up a minor knock which ruled him out of England’s clash with Kosovo.

Gareth Southgate has claimed that it is not a serious injury, but Liverpool will assess the situation.

Dejan Lovren’s recent form for Liverpool has hindered Joe Gomez’s progression at Anfield this season, so Gomez needs to be back as soon as possible to prove that he is capable of dislodging the Croatian. With Joel Matip also set to be back in the coming weeks, Gomez will face even more competition for his place in Jurgen Klopp’s side.
He was subjected to unneeded abuse earlier this week when England fans booed his appearance off the bench, with Sterling even coming out after the game to berate the fans for their behaviour – absolving Gomez of any blame in their altercation. The young defender will surely now be desperate to return to Liverpool and regain full fitness before doing his talking on the pitch, rather than off it.
