Guardiola plays down eight point gap – Why his comments are a positive

Pep Guardiola has attempted to play down Liverpool’s eight point lead at the top of league following Manchester City’s surprise defeat to Wolves on Sunday, and his comments can serve as a positive for the Reds.

Adama Traore scored a second half brace at the Etihad to give Wolves the win and ensure Liverpool head into the international break with an eight point advantage at the top of the Premier League.

Guardiola however, insists his players will not focus on Liverpool’s lead as he reflected on what was a difficult day for his side, the Mirror reports.

It’s a lot of points. They haven’t dropped any points, for many circumstances. But it’s better for us not to think that one team is eight points ahead. It was a bad day. But sometimes it happens.

Guardiola’s comments can certainly serve as a positive for Liverpool, with the City boss acknowledging the big lead the Reds currently have.

Despite his efforts to play the gap down, Liverpool will know they currently have a huge advantage in the early race for the title, and the onus will now be on Jurgen Klopp’s men to keep their momentum going after the international break.
