Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson has travelled to the USA in search of treatment for a heel injury which has resulted in the Reds midfielder missing the last three Premier League games.
The 25-year-old was forced off early in the second half of the 1-0 home win against Bournemouth back in August, and hasn’t featured since.
Henderson arrived in New York on Monday with Andy Massey, the club doctor, and will see a specialist during the week in the hope that the England international can be helped, and in turn speed up his recovery.
And according to the Liverpool Echo, the skipper will receive treatment but the injury will not require surgery.
The report claims that Brendan Rodgers was at first hopeful that his captain would be back after the international fixtures, but now he’s set for more time on the sidelines and his return date is unknown.
Since Henderson was substituted in the first home game of the season, the Reds have failed to pick up a win, though they did take a point from Arsenal in a tough game at the Emirates.
James Milner will continue to deputise as Liverpool’s captain in his absence.
The Reds face Bordeaux on Thursday in the Europa League, before a home tie against Norwich City on Sunday afternoon.
