Former Red Ray Houghton believes Liverpool must improve their home form if they’re to finish in the top four this season.
After Sunday’s 2-2 draw with West Brom, Liverpool have now taken just 12 points at Anfield this season – a stat Houghton feels will eventually hinder Jurgen Klopp and his team, should it continue in the same way.
Speaking to TalkSport, Houghton said:
I think they’re really under par at home, they’ve got to find a way to break down the opposition. Your home form is so important if you’re going to get into that top four. They need to address it – and address it quickly.
Since Klopp joined Liverpool the club have lost to Crystal Palace at home, as well as drawn with West Brom and Southampton. Swansea and Bournemouth (Capital One Cup) also pushed the Merseysiders close, despite the end result being a Reds win.

Houghton believes the style of play from teams coming to Anfield is the issue:
They’re just trying to get numbers behind the ball and Liverpool are finding it a real struggle at the minute. It’s much when they play away from home, they can sit deeper and hit teams on the counter-attack.
Klopp has brought around obvious improvement with just two losses in his 14 games in charge, but it’s the home form that’s most concerning currently.
