How big a boost will it be for Liverpool if Laporte misses Community Shield clash?

Manchester City could be without defender Aymeric Laporte for this Sunday’s Community Shield clash against Liverpool, but how big a boost would his potential absence be for the Reds?

Sam Lee reports that Laporte has a knock and is a doubt for Sunday’s game, as well as City’s Premier League opener against West Ham and I think that his absence would be a big blow for the Premier League champions.

Vincent Kompany is no longer at City, whilst Nicolas Otamendi has only just returned from his post-Copa America break, which will leave City short of options at centre-back.

John Stones now looks certain to play, but his partner, if Laporte does miss out, could be either Danilo, who’d be playing out of position, or youngster Eric Garcia.

Divock Origi looks like he’ll be leading the line for Liverpool in the Community Shield and he should be full of confidence. He ended last season in great goalscoring form and he found the back of the net on plenty of occasions in the pre-season too.

If City are without Laporte, one would expect him to give either Danilo or Garcia a very tough time at Wembley. Whilst City are still a great team who will likely give the Reds a very tough time, the absence of Laporte, if he misses the game, could be a massive boost for Jurgen Klopp’s side.
