Journalist claims this could be Salah, Mane and Firmino’s final season together

Liverpool Echo journalist Ian Doyle remains “absolutely convinced” that at least one of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino won’t be at Liverpool next season.

The trio have all been wonderful servants for the Reds, forging arguably the world’s most complete attacking unit in recent seasons and scoring 261 goals between them (Salah 99, Mane 84 and Firmino 78).

Firmino joined Liverpool first in 2015, before Mane arrived the following year and Salah signed in 2017.

Speaking in a live chat on Thursday, Doyle gave his opinion on whether Liverpool’s brilliant front-three were on the verge of parting ways or not:

I remain absolutely convinced this is the last season Salah, Mane and Firmino will all play together.

It is a bold claim by Doyle – one that is sure to rile some Liverpool supporters – but there may be an aspect of truth in what he is saying.

While the idea of any of Salah, Mane or Firmino leaving currently is a grim, the first two will turn 29 next year, while Firmino will be 30.

Liverpool have been extremely shrewd in the transfer market under Jurgen Klopp and Michael Edwards, and I could envisage a scenario where the club accept a vast bid for one of them, allowing them to receive a huge fee while they are still in their prime.

That would then generate funds to bring in a world-class replacement such as Jadon Sancho, Kylian Mbappe or Erling Haaland, for example, all of whom could be superstars for the next decade.

Doyle’s comments could be met negatively by some, but Liverpool don’t want to be in a situation where Salah, Mane and Firmino have all gone past their peak together at Anfield.
