According to German reports, Liverpool could be set to make a move for out-of-favour Borussia Dortmund centre-back Neven Subotic in the January window.
The Serb has only featured twice this season under new boss Thomas Tuchel and would reportedly be keen to reunite with former Dortmund manager Klopp, who Subotic was a mainstay under.
German outlet BILD claim that the new Liverpool boss would also be keen on a reunification with the 26-year-old whom he remains a big fan of, despite his recent lack of playing time.
Liverpool are currently in dire need of reinforcements at the back with only four recognised first-team centre-halves to choose from.
Of these, Kolo Toure and Mamadou Sakho are currently out injured.
Klopp has a long history with Subotic who he took to Dortmund from Mainz shortly after making the move himself as manager, and according to Rafa Honigstein, this pattern looks “likely” to continue.
However, the German sports Journalist told said in October that there is a deal in place to prevent Klopp taking any other Dortmund players with him to Liverpool, which would rule out a move for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Marco Reus who have previously been linked with the Merseyside Club.
This will come as disappointing news for Liverpool fans, however the potential signing of Subotic would be very good business indeed and should bring much needed defensive solidity to the back four.
