Klopp offers injury update on Oxlade-Chamberlain

Jurgen Klopp has offered an update on Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain after the midfielder was forced off with an ankle problem that left him on crutches following the Club World Cup victory on Saturday.

Oxlade-Chamberlain was caught by Everton Ribeiro with 15 minutes of normal time remaining, and was seen on crutches wearing a protective boot following the 1-0 win.

And according to the Independent, Klopp has revealed the club will assess the injury before describing the incident as leaving a “big shadow” over the result.

I spoke to him, he showed me the video. He got a kick and rolled over on it when he landed. He feels ok, of course it’s far from being perfect, but we have to see if it’s a stretched ligament or partly ruptured or ruptured. It is a big shadow tonight.

Seeing Oxlade-Chamberlain in crutches and wearing a protective boot following the final certainly did leave a shadow over the result, and everybody will now be hoping the problem is not a major concern.

The midfielder has had no luck with injuries since joining the club, and it would be another setback for him if he faces another lengthy spell on the sidelines.
