Klopp views Havertz as number one summer transfer target

Kai Havertz is Liverpool’s number one transfer target this summer, according to the Express.

The 20-year-old has continued to shine for Bayer Leverkusen this season, notching four goals and two assists in the Bundesliga.

Numerous reports have tipped Havertz to join Liverpool at the end of the season, as Klopp looks to make his squad even more formidable.

This latest update claims the midfielder is the manager’s first-choice signing this summer, even stating that the Reds are desperate to bring him in.

In my opinion, Havertz has the potential to be a wonderful addition to Liverpool’s squad because he will bring something different to the Reds’ midfield. The youngster has been compared to Mesut Ozil in style, mainly because of his left foot and eye for a killer pass, which is something Jordan Henderson and Gini Wijnaldum are not as effective at producing.

While Havertz possesses the guile of Ozil – he averages 2.2 key passes per game in the league this season – he also brings more of a physical edge, standing at six feet two inches tall and is capable of thriving in a box-to-box role.

While not as strong defensively as the likes of Henderson and Wijnaldum – he only averages 0.8 tackles per league game this season, which is fewer than the Liverpool pair (2.2 and 1.0 respectively) – he could offer something different in the middle of the park, creating more and carrying a greater threat in the final third.
