A left-sided and left-footed centre-back, the young Frenchman could be an ideal alternative to Dejan Lovren at Liverpool, coming in as a back-up option and not demanding regular starts, considering the fact he is only 20.

His 78.5 per cent pass completion rate in the league could admittedly be improved upon, but working under Jurgen Klopp and playing for a team that dominates games more than Frankfurt could work in his favour.

With Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip all good options moving forward, it may be that an emerging fourth-choice centre-back could best suit the Reds.

They don’t necessarily need a new regular starter at the heart of the defence, instead bringing in someone who can do a job when required, maturing as a player at the same time.

Ndicka ticks a lot of the boxes in that respect, playing enough first-team football to be reliable, but also not expecting to start every week for arguably the best club side in the world.
