Liverpool cancel Monchengladbach friendly after illegal Brewster pursuit

Liverpool have cancelled a Summer friendly with Borussia Monchengladbach after the German side’s pursuit of youngster Rhian Brewster.

The game was due to be played at Anfield on August 7th, but will now not happen after Monchengladbach attempted to sign the Liverpool youngster.

The Reds believe that the German side spoke to the player without their permission, so have cancelled the friendly and sent the club a formal warning about their conduct.

Monchengladbach’s Sporting Director Max Eberl is a fan of young English talents. On Friday, Monchengladbach signed 19-year-old Keanan Bennetts from Tottenham Hotspur after also signing West Ham’s Reece Oxford on loan for the past two seasons.

Liverpool are ready to take the case of Brewster to Fifa, after Monchengladbach’s conduct.

The club did offer Brewster a professional contract at the first available opportunity. However, it remains unsigned, with interest coming from a few sides.

Brewster, however, is still under contract with the Reds, so does not have permission to speak to other sides.
