Timo Werner is a player who Liverpool have continually been linked with in recent years.
The RB Leipzig star looks set to leave the Bundesliga club at the end of the season, with Bayern Munich generally seen as the favourites to sign him.
Werner has scored 68 goals in just 124 appearances for Leipzig and he looks set to be Germany’s long-term first-choice striker.
According to transfer expert Ian McGarry, who was speaking on Reach Plc’s Transfer Window podcast, the 23-year-old could join Liverpool in January, before heading back to Leipzig on loan briefly:
Werner was extremely disappointed that his move to Bayern Munich effectively broke down disappeared into the ether and he’s been quite unhappy since.
Well, Liverpool are trying to make that a bit better for both the player and his club.
It has been suggested that Liverpool would buy the player in the January window and then he would be loaned back for the remainder of the Bundesliga season allowing RB Leipzig to get a good five months out of the player and to put the disappointment of the Bayern Munich transfer disintegrating behind him.

Werner would be a superb signing for the Reds, ticking so many boxes required to be a success story at Anfield.
He possesses the technical quality, work ethic and versatility to shine in a Jurgen Klopp side, and is at an age where he should keep improving.
It would be a major coup if Liverpool did acquire Werner’s signature, especially ahead of Bayern.
