Liverpool fans react as Trent Alexander-Arnold left on the bench in England win

Trent Alexander-Arnold was an unused substitute as England romped to a 4-0 win over Bulgaria at Wembley today.

The Liverpool defender was left on the bench, with Atletico Madrid’s Kieran Trippier used instead.

England still managed to get past Bulgaria, with Trippier returning to the side after over a year without a cap for the Three Lions.

However, some Liverpool fans were confused by the decision to leave out Trent, with many not agreeing with Gareth Southgate’s team selection.

Andrew was very confused by the decision to start Trippier.

Nath was also baffled by the decision and reckons that England would struggle against decent opposition.

@NoticeNaby believes that this just shows that the Three Lions team is just picked on names, rather than merit.

@SixSenor didn’t even bother to watch with Trent not in the team.

Trent should surely be starting every game for England in competitive fixtures, as he is surely the best player they have in the position.

Alexander Arnold has proven time and time again with the Reds that he is a world-class defender, and surely Southgate can see he is a better option than Trippier.

Although, it was against Bulgaria, and Southgate could just be testing out different options against weaker opposition.

Trent also didn’t risk playing to get an injury, which is a big boost to the Reds.
