Liverpool will face off against Genk tonight in the Champions League but will be without Joel Matip and Trent Alexander-Arnold.
Matip has a slight knee issue that will keep him out of the game, whilst Alexander-Arnold has a virus which prevented him from travelling to Belgium with his teammates.
Therefore, two of Liverpool’s first-choice back four are unavailable for tonight’s game, so who should replace them in the starting line-up?
Dejan Lovren, Joe Gomez and James Milner are the three most obvious candidates.
Lovren could come in to replace Matip, Milner could slot in at right-back if required, whilst Gomez can play in either role.
So, yesterday, I put a poll out on Twitter to see which combination of those three players Liverpool fans would like to see playing against Genk.
Here’s how the voting went:

Of the 909 people who voted in the poll, 61% wanted to see Lovren play at centre-back with Gomez playing at right-back. That selection was the clear favourite ahead of Milner at right-back and Gomez at centre-back, which got 31% of votes

Liverpool playing Gomez at right-back is a bit more of a defensive option that Milner playing there, and in an away game in Europe, that might be a wise move, especially if Mohamed Salah is fit to start on the right-wing as he’s unlikely to give too much protection to his defender.
I personally agree with the voting. Lovren was very good against Leicester and I’d be happy to see him at centre-back with Gomez doing a job on the right.
