Liverpool’s youngsters fought hard and did themselves proud, despite losing 5-0 in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals at Aston Villa 5-0 on Tuesday night.
Jonathan Kodjia scored twice for the Villains, while goals from Conor Hourihane and Wesley, as well as an early own goal from Morgan Boyes, added to the scoreline.
The Reds began the game well and forced Villa goalkeeper Orjan Nyland into a good save.
Two quick goals from the home side dented the early promise to some extent, however, and a mistake from Sepp van den Berg allowed Kodjia to score his second of the night.
The Villains were 4-0 up by half-time when Kodjia was on hand to bag his second, after a routine cut-back from Ahmed Elmohamady.
Liverpool’s youngsters held their own in the second half, but eventually conceded the fifth goal in the 92nd minute, when Wesley rounded off a good counter-attacking move by the home side.
All in all, it was a good performance from the Reds, who had chances to score themselves, but couldn’t get one past an inspired Nyland.
