Liverpool scout midfielder in Champions League tie

Porto midfielder Ruben Neves was watched again by the Liverpool scouting team last night, the Mirror have reported.

The Reds sent a member of the scouting team to oversee Neves captain the Portuguese side in their 2-0 Champions League home win against Maccabi Tel Aviv.

He is now the youngest player to captain a side in the competition’s history.

Liverpool will continue to watch the 18-year-old and have stepped up their interest again in the last few weeks, which was first confirmed by the Mirror back in January.

Whilst many top European clubs are said to be watching Neves, it is believed that the Reds are leading the hunt.

Neves’ agent, Jorge Mendes, is known as a ‘super-agent’ and has other clients including James Rodriguez, Jose Mourinho, Angel Di Maria and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Last week, it was reported by the Mirror that the Merseyside club had informally made an approach for the Porto prospect and that the deep-lying midfielder would become the best-paid teenager in the world should a deal be completed.

The wonder kid is already an established FC Porto player at the mere age of 18, and his quality continues to shine through week in, week out.
