With less than a week to go before the January transfer window closes, Liverpool have made an offer for Schalke defender Joel Matip, according to Sky Sports.
It was reported earlier in the month by Sky Sports that the Reds were interested in the 6’4″ Cameroon international, and it looks like they have took that interest further by tabling a bid.
Matip, 24, is out of contract at the end of the season and is understood to have asked for a move away, despite Schalke wanting him to sign a new deal.
The defender could be the solution Liverpool are looking for at the back as Jurgen Klopp looks to stabilise the defence which has leaked 32 goals in just 23 Premier League games.
Klopp will know all about Matip from his time with Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund and he should be familiar with the qualities that Matip can bring to the team.
