Liverpool turn down approach for midfielder

Liverpool have rebuffed Swansea City’s attempts to bring back their former midfielder Joe Allen, according to BBC Sport, as the Welsh international continues to turn in impressive performances for Jurgen Klopp’s men.

Allen has been enjoying a purple patch in form for the Reds, scoring a crucial late equaliser in their thrilling 3-3 draw with Arsenal two weeks ago, along with Liverpool’s opening goal in their FA Cup third round replay against Exeter City, as they cruised through with a 3-0 victory.

As a result of their hugely underwhelming season, Swansea had turned to Allen to reignite their campaign and help save them from the realistic possibilities of relegation.

However, their enquiry about taking the Welshmen on loan was rejected by Liverpool, who are keen to keep hold of the midfielder.

Allen joined Liverpool in the summer of 2012 and has failed to live up to his expectations since his arrival, however, his emergence this season under new boss Klopp has been a big improvement.

Another big reason behind Liverpool’s desire to keep hold of the 25-year-old is due to the fact that the Reds are currently competing in the Premier League, the FA Cup, the Capital One Cup and the Europa League.

With games coming thick and fast, it makes sense for Liverpool to want to keep hold of their experienced, first-team players.
