Liverpool and Chelsea lock horns in the UEFA Super Cup on Wednesday night, hoping to win the first European trophy of the season.
The Reds go into the clash as the favourites, given the gulf in class between the two sides last season, and the manner in which they have both started the 2019/20 campaign.
Jurgen Klopp’s men must beware the wounded animal, though.
After an undeserved 4-0 defeat to Manchester United on Sunday, there will be a determination to put things right from Frank Lampard and his Chelsea players.
With the game fast approaching, here’s a look at the potential dangermen for the Blues.
JORGINHO
The Italian midfielder is unlikely to pose a direct threat on goal but he is very much the man who pulls the strings at the heart of this Chelsea team.
With N’Golo Kante likely to be back, he should be released to impact the game further up the pitch.
His ability to play difficult passes, control the tempo and martial players around him make him a danger that needs to be nullified.
Christian Pulisic
If given his full debut, Pulisic will cause Liverpool problems.
That will particularly be the case if he is up against Trent Alexander-Arnold, who has struggled defensively in the last two games.
Pulisic’s pace and directness could mean another tough night for Liverpool’s right-back.
Olivier Giroud
Yes, you read that right.
Giroud has plenty of big-game experience and seems to perform in cup finals.
An underrated striker who may have the dubious honour of not scoring but still winning the World Cup as France’s leading striker, he could pose a threat.
Not only that, he will have a point to prove after seeing Tammy Abraham given the nod at Old Trafford.
Predicton
This is a different Chelsea team – not of the ilk that Liverpool have had some intense games against in the past.
The Reds should have too much tactical nous and experience for them, securing Super Cup glory in the process.
