Liverpool will speak to Klopp again in November

Liverpool have tried to get former Borussia Dortmund manager Jurgen Klopp to take over as first-team manager on two separate occasions, according to the Guardian’s German football correspondent Raphael Honigstein.

Speaking on the Football Weekly Extra podcast, Honigstein also said that Liverpool did not approach Klopp in the summer, despite rumours to the contrary.

He then went on to say that, according to his sources, there is a plan in place for the parties to get together in November for more talks.

He said:

There is a sense, after talking to one or two people, that maybe there is an opportunity to sit down and discuss things going forward, maybe in November. I’m not sure if that’s directly related to what Liverpool are doing this season or if it’s for next season, maybe it’s just exploratory talks.

Brendan Rodgers has had an up and down tenure as Liverpool manager. His first season was slightly disappointing, but on the whole, he was given the benefit of any doubt as he tried to mould the squad to fit how he wanted to play.

His second season was fantastic. Liverpool mounted a serious title challenge, and they went into the last game of the season with the chance, albeit a slim one, of winning the Premier League. The football played that year had people genuinely excited to watch Liverpool.

Rodgers’ third season was very disappointing and ended with a humiliating defeat at the hands of Stoke City. Many thought he’d lose his job after that, but FSG stuck by him.

His fourth season in charge began with a respectable seven points from three games, however, two defeats, to West Ham and Manchester United respectively, have left many fans calling for his head.
