Liverpool’s festive form in the last five years

As Liverpool prepare for a potentially season-defining festive period, we look back on the Reds’ Christmas form over the last five years.

This year, Jurgen Klopp’s men face three games in the space of six days, starting with a home tie against Stoke on December 27 before a blockbuster clash with Manchester City on New Year’s Eve and a visit to Sunderland on January 2nd.

With Chelsea six points clear of the chasing pack and facing two seemingly straight-forward home games, given their sensational form, against Bournemouth and Stoke, Liverpool simply must keep place to stay in the hunt heading into the second half of the campaign.

Since 2011, the Reds have won eight of their 15 ‘festive’ fixtures, drawing two and losing five.

A glance at the current table, and you would think seven points from a possible nine is the absolute minimum.

Let’s take a look back through the archives and assess how the Reds cope with the congested run of games.
