While it appeared as though a move to Liverpool looked the most likely outcome, the currently virus-related illness affecting the world may have changed things.

Speaking to Sport1, with quotes cited by the Mirror, Leipzig sporting director Markus Krosche admitted there is no guarantee that a deal could happen now.

It is clear that Timo has attracted interest from other clubs for his great performances with his goals and assists.

England has the same problems as we do. The crisis affects not just one league, it has a global impact, and we cannot say whether things will be the same in six months.

There is no doubting that this could be a blow to Liverpool, with Werner one of Europe’s most prolific strikers. The 24-year-old has scored 88 goals in 150 matches for the Bundesliga side, outlining his pedigree.

However, concluding a deal could be in Leipzig’s best interests, earning a good sum of money for his services and not potentially keeping hold of an unhappy player next season.

The report also adds that Leipzig themselves hope to conclude permanent deals for loan pair Angelino and Patrick Schick this summer, something that the sale of Werner could certainly help.

The hope is that a deal still goes through despite the ongoing issues affecting football, but it is an understandably tricky period when it comes to conducting business.
