With the winds of change having swept through Anfield once again this summer, Brendan Rodgers finds himself in the familiar position of having to blood fresh faces into a preferred starting XI.
That is no bad thing when you consider the quality of those that have been brought on board, with useful Premier League experience blended with exciting potential from foreign fields to see betting markets and exchanges such as those at Betfair rate the Reds as 5/2 shots to secure a top-four finish on the brink of the season.
Liverpool will, of course, be hoping that all of the new arrivals hit the ground running, with Sunday’s season opener against Stoke City likely to deliver a number of competitive debuts.
Whether any of those involved for the first time can get their name on the scoresheet remains to be seen, but the Reds will certainly be looking to the likes of Roberto Firmino, Christian Benteke, Danny Ings, James Milner, Nathaniel Clyne and Divock Origi (not a newbie but a man yet to make his bow for the club) to make their mark on proceedings.
If any of those mentioned above are able to open their account, then they will join an elite group of players to have netted on their Liverpool debut – with only seven players achieving that feat in a Premier League fixture.
Here are the last five players to score on their first senior outing across all competitions:
Jordan Rossiter v Middlesbrough (League Cup 23/09/2014)
Thrown into the side at the tender age of 17, Rossiter needed just 10 minutes in which to break his duck – with the youngster profiting from some rather awkward defending from the Middlesbrough back line to return the ball into an unguarded net from 30 yards out.
Victor Moses v Swansea City (Premier League 16/09/2013)
Brought in on a season-long loan to provide direct running on the flanks, Moses did just that against Swansea as he drove at a retreating back four from halfway, cut inside onto his right foot and drilled a low effort past a motionless Michel Vorm.
Daniel Sturridge v Mansfield Town (FA Cup 06/01/2013)
A darting run in behind the last man was spotted by Jonjo Shelvey and, without breaking stride, the new boy calmly stroked home – cue the trademark celebration for the first time in a Liverpool jersey.
Andre Wisdom v Young Boys (Europa League 20/09/2012)
His most productive season in Liverpool colours to date was sparked by a European outing in which he powered home a header from an outswinging corner in an entertaining contest which saw the Reds run out 5-3 victors on the night.
Luis Suarez v Stoke City (Premier League 02/02/2011)
The first of 82 goals in 133 appearances arrived just 16 minutes after being introduced off the bench on his debut, with the Uruguayan sent clean through to calmly round an onrushing keeper and find the net via the aid of a sliding recovery effort that could only divert the ball onto the inside of the post.
