Milner eyeing Leeds return if Liverpool deal cannot be agreed

James Milner will reportedly target a return to Elland Road if he cannot agree a new deal with Liverpool.

The versatile midfielder is in the final year of his current contract with the club and according to Football Insider, is keen on extending his deal by a further two years.

However the report suggests Liverpool may only be looking at a 12-month extension for the 33-year-old, who would also be expected to take a pay cut should he stay at Anfield.

Milner therefore is said to be open on a return to Leeds United, having previously stated a desire to end his career at Elland Road after making his professional debut for the club at 16-years-old.

Milner certainly still has a key role to play at Liverpool, and you would imagine the club are keen on extending his deal if terms can be agreed between both parties.

The 33-year-old’s versatility has been hugely important for the Reds since his move from Manchester City in 2015, and having a player of his kind is crucial for any successful side.
