Milner hints at signing new Liverpool deal – he fully deserves one

James Milner has fully justified earning a new deal at Liverpool, proving to be a truly brilliant free transfer.

The 33-year-old was the Reds’ hero on Saturday, firing home a stoppage time penalty against Leicester City to make it 17 Premier League wins in a row for Jurgen Klopp’s side.

Speaking after the game, Milner briefly discussed his rumoured new contract, hinting to BBC Sport that he will extend his stay at Anfield:

Hopefully scoring today hasn’t done any harm so we will see what happens.

Although Milner clearly isn’t getting any younger, retaining his services is a no-brainer for Liverpool.

This wouldn’t mean he is a regular in the team moving forward, but his vast experience and winning mentality are both priceless attributes to have in and around the squad.

Keeping hold of Milner can’t do any harm whatsoever and Jurgen Klopp shouldn’t consider selling him.

There have been some rumours linking the veteran midfielder with a return to boyhood club Leeds United, especially if they earn promotion to the Premier League, but he should ignore that and commit his short-term future to Liverpool.

His game time is likely to diminish, but he can continue to be an important figure.

Saturday’s impact showed exactly what he can still offer – not only his goal, but also his brilliant assist for Sadio Mane.
