New signing James Milner has been vocal about his confidence in Liverpool’s midfield options, and how he believes they complement the style that Brendan Rodgers wants to see within the side.
The former Manchester City man, who took the captain’s armband for the first time as a Liverpool player on Monday night due to an injury to Jordan Henderson, was asked about the midfield set-up that the manager could implement.
Milner told Sky Sports, as quoted on Liverpoolfc.com: “It depends how the manager wants to play – two or three, or one of us sitting or moving out. There’s plenty of energy in there.
“Emre (Can) came on as well (against Bournemouth), Adam played in there and Philippe (Coutinho) played in there (against Stoke).
“There’s a lot of options for us and a lot of different styles of players, and a lot of energy. That’s how we want to play, we want to move the ball but we want to put teams under pressure as well when they have it.”

Milner was also quizzed about Liverpool’s tough visit to the Emirates Stadium on Monday night, which will undoubtedly be Liverpool’s most stern test thus far this season.
The Reds have six points out of a possible six, scoring two goals and conceding none in their first two league outings.
“It will be a tough game. They look sharp. They had a disappointing result in their first game but they are a quality team and will want to bounce back from that and try to get their run going,” said Milner.
“We have defended well in the first two games of the season and we’re going to need to do that there. But if we can keep improving and keep clean sheets, we have quality going forward.”
