Mohamed Salah could be rested for visit of Southampton

Mohamed Salah could be rested against Southampton according to Reds boss Jurgen Klopp, with Xherdan Shaqiri potentially getting his first start as a Liverpool player.

The Mirror are reporting that Shaqiri could be handed a start ahead of the Egyptian, with Jurgen Klopp looking to rest some starts amid Liverpool’s hectic schedule.

The Swiss star has been working hard according to Klopp, and could see some more minutes handed his way.

Everyone loves Shaq – without playing plenty of minutes. That is more my mistake than his. He has done everything to play.

I made different decisions, but his time will come, that is sure.

Salah was subbed against Paris Saint Germain in midweek, with the Reds snatching a 3-2 win at the death against the French Champions to kick off their European campaign in style.

Klopp launched to the defence of his Egyptian talisman, who has only scored twice so far this season after a breakout season for the Reds last term.

The PSG game was one of his best, 100 per cent. Defensively he was outstanding the last two games. I’ve said a few times, without the three forwards in running mode, we have no chance.

These things are so important. People say you are a world-class player but you still have to defend like in the first game of your career. You need to be brave for that.
