New Balance “has filed appeal papers in a final bid to lock Liverpool into a new kit deal”, according to the Liverpool Echo.
The Reds won a legal battle with their current kit sponsors last week, following a three-day trial at the High Court.
Liverpool are keen to end their relationship with New Balance when their current contract expires at the end of the season, with Nike lined up in a record-breaking deal that would take the club to another level.
The Reds are set to “press ahead” with the Nike deal, which is claimed to be “already agreed in principle”, with the manufacturers reportedly spending £6 million on the kit design.
New Balance appealed immediately after losing out in court and the report adds that their “only route to having the judgement over-turned was to write directly to the Court of Appeal for permission to appeal.”
The court will now decide if an appeal hearing goes ahead.
New Balance have been Liverpool’s kit sponsors since 2012, but the club has moved on since then and is in a position where Nike represent a more exciting option.
